South Sudanese ambassador dies in Switzerland

August 25, 2015 (WAU) – The government of South Sudan announced on Monday the untimely death of its ambassador to Switzerland, Alison Magaya.

A former interior minister, Magaya reportedly died after a long illness.

“We got notification yesterday that he [Magaya] actually passed on Geneva,” Mawien Makol, the foreign affairs spokesperson told Sudan Tribune on Tuesday.

The ex-interior minister reportedly succumbed to liver complications.

Magaya who hailed from Western Equatoria state initially belonged to Sudan’s National Congress Party (NCP) before joining South Sudan’s ruling party in 2010.

He was appointed interior minister after the 2011 independence and later South Sudan’s ambassador to Geneva after being dropped in the 2013 cabinet reshuffle.
