UNISFA evacuates casualties from Kadugli after deadly drone strike

December 14, 2025 (KADUGLI) – The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) evacuated killed and wounded peacekeepers to the Abyei region on Sunday, following a deadly drone strike on its facilities in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State.

Three drones targeted the UN mission’s camp on Saturday, killing six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and wounding eight others.

While the Sudanese government condemned the incident and blamed the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Bangladeshi army attributed the strike to “separatist armed groups.” UN Secretary-General António Guterres demanded accountability for the attack but did not assign blame to a specific party.

Military sources told reporters that a UNISFA aircraft carrying medical personnel from Ghana landed in Kadugli to retrieve the six bodies and seven of the wounded. The Bangladeshi force commander and Sudanese army officers oversaw the evacuation.

In a statement, the Bangladeshi army confirmed the casualties at its logistics base. It reported that one soldier underwent surgery and remains under close observation, while seven others were airlifted to advanced medical facilities where they are in stable condition.

Bangladesh condemned the “brutal terrorist attack” and affirmed that the sacrifices of its peacekeepers symbolize the country’s commitment to global peace.

This marks the first attack of its kind on the UN mission, which operates in the disputed Abyei territory, since the war between the Sudanese army and the RSF erupted in April 2023.
