Sudan calls for RSF terror listing after US moves against Islamists

March 10, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday the government has noted the U.S. designation of the Islamic Movement as a terrorist organization and called for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to be added to the list.

Washington on Monday designated the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood, including the Islamic Movement and the Al-Baraa bin Malik Battalion, as Specially Designated Global Terrorists. It also announced intentions to classify them as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

The Sudanese foreign ministry said in a statement that the government followed the U.S. decision regarding the Sudanese groups. It noted that the government’s position is to condemn all forms of terrorism and violent extremism without exception or selectivity.

The government maintains that all groups violating international humanitarian law and committing terrorism, crimes against humanity, and war crimes in Sudan should be classified as terrorist groups, the ministry added.

The statement urged a response to calls to designate the “rebel RSF militia” as a terrorist group. The ministry cited allegations of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and terrorism committed by the paramilitary force during the ongoing conflict.

The foreign ministry emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting national security and stability. It stated that all necessary measures would be taken under national law and in accordance with international obligations to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
