Sudan army says RSF fighters surrender after field gains

JULY 31, 2026 (OMDURMAN) – A group of Rapid Support Forces fighters has surrendered to the Sudanese army with their full military equipment in Omdurman, state media reported on Friday.

The fighters arrived in the city west of Khartoum after travelling from Bara in North Kordofan state, where military leaders and intelligence officials received them.

The surrender follows significant advances by the Sudanese army this week in North Kordofan. Military forces secured four strategic areas, including Bara and Jabrat al-Sheikh, alongside a vital 400-kilometre trade corridor linking Omdurman to El Obeid.

Former RSF commander Al-Nour Al-Qubba, who defected to the army in April, was among the officials receiving the group.

Al-Qubba told reporters that desertions from the paramilitary group are continuing as more personnel cross over to the military.

“The RSF lacks principles, a cause, and a strategy,” Al-Qubba said, adding that external backing for the group would not alter the outcome of the conflict because its objectives were driven by personal interest.

He urged remaining RSF members to lay down their arms, stating that authorities would welcome anyone who stops fighting.

Al-Qubba’s defection earlier this year was followed in May by field commander Ali Rizqallah, also known as “Al-Savanna.”
