August 13, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army intercepted a second day of widespread drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces targeting positions across the capital Khartoum on Thursday, military sources and witnesses said.

Army air defence units downed multiple drones over northern and western Omdurman, one of the three cities making up greater Khartoum, according to military sources.

Witnesses in western Omdurman reported heavy explosions as air defences engaged low-flying suicide drones approaching from the west.

The strikes follow a barrage on Wednesday that targeted Omdurman, Atbara in River Nile state, and the North Kordofan capital of El Obeid, where falling drone debris killed two people.

The aerial assault marks a resurgence in RSF strikes on the capital region after paramilitary forces were pushed out of large areas of North Kordofan two weeks ago, including a major trade route linking the region to Khartoum.
