Sudan anti-war coalition meets African, international envoys on peace roadmap

October 12, 2026 –(ADDIS ABABA) – Sudan’s anti-war civilian coalition held talks on Monday with the African Union high-level mechanism, joined by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and international envoys, to discuss efforts to end the country’s conflict.

The meeting at African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa followed joint consultations held in New York by international mediation tracks, coalition leader Shehab Ibrahim told Sudan Tribune.

Participants included United Nations personal envoy Ramtane Lamamra, AU envoy Mohamed Ibn Chambas, representatives from East African regional bloc IGAD, European Union special representative Annette Weber, and observers from Norway and Germany.

Ibrahim said the coalition presented a framework based on three parallel tracks: a temporary ceasefire, humanitarian aid delivery, and a comprehensive political dialogue.

He stressed that these steps must proceed simultaneously, warning that treating them separately would complicate resolution efforts.

The sides agreed to form a joint preparatory committee to set an agenda, determine participants, select venues for future talks, and expand engagement with international facilitators.

Discussions also addressed contentious issues, including the potential involvement of members of the dissolved National Congress Party of ousted President Omar al-Bashir.

Ibrahim said the coalition outlined its objections to including the former ruling party, arguing that dismantling the economic base of the previous regime and safeguarding independent military decision-making remain essential priorities.

The talks also covered future constitutional structures and governance arrangements, which the parties agreed to include in broader political negotiations.
