Eritrea’s Afwerki holds talks with Sudan’s opposition al-Turabi

Oct 25, 2005 (ASMARA) — Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki held talks with Hassan al-Turabi, Secretary General of the Sudanese Popular Congress (PC) party, the official shabait website reported.

Hassan_al-Turabi1.jpgAl -Turabi discussed ways of strengthening relations between the ruling People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) and the PC.

During the meeting held last night, President Isayas and al-Turabi discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations between the PFDJ and the PC, relations between the peoples and governments of Eritrea and Sudan and cooperation and peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. The PFDJ and PC also agreed to work together to that end.

Afwerki and Turabi also praised the recent working visit of a high-level Eritrean delegation to Khartoum and the agreements reached to further enhance bilateral relations. They said the visit has been positive and significant. To this end, they called on peoples of the two countries to work towards cementing the relations.

The PFDJ Secretary Al-Amin Mohamed Saeed and the head of organizational affairs of the PFDJ, Abdallah Jabir, also attended the meeting.

Al-Turabi arrived in Asmara Sunday night.
