Sudan, Turkey ink military cooperation accord

July 31, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan and Turkey signed a military cooperation accord, the Sudanese minister of defense said at the end of four-day visit to Turkey.

abdelrahim_hussein.jpgMinister of National Defence Gen. Abdelrahim Mohamed Hussein said today that Sudan and Turkey signed a Memorandum of understanding on military cooperation. The minister further added that this MoU will be developed in the future to military protocol on the training and exchange of savoir faire

Hussein concluded Monday a four-day visit to Turkey where he held talks with his Turkish counterpart on boosting military cooperation.

During the visit, the Sudanese minister has also toured a number of military units and looked into the progress achieved by Turkey in this regard.

The visit has achieved its aims by promoting the distinguished relations between the two countries, said the Minister upon return on Monday. Senior military delegation representing the various military units has accompanied the Minister.

Since the beginning of this year, Sudanese government signed similar agreement with Pakistan, Belarus, and China. On the regional level, it’s worth to mention that Eritrea signed a military cooperation deal with Pakistan while Ethiopia signed similar accord with Turkey.
