South Sudan’s Kiir appoints new National Liberation Council member
November 24, 2024 (JUBA) – President Salva Kiir has appointed a new member of the Sudan people Liberation Movement (SPLM) National Liberation Council (NLC).
Kiir, the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) television reported, named Peter Kuot Jiel as a new NLC member, replacing James Deng Wal.
The president’s decree did not give reasons why changes were made in the NLC.
The NCL is the legislative organ of the country’s ruling SPLM party.
In September, South Sudan’s parties to the peace agreement, extended the transitional period until December 2026, citing the need to complete the implementation process. Also postponed was an election which was to be held in December 2024.
