Burhan holds unannounced talks with Erdoğan in Ankara

June 3, Ankara — The Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held unannounced talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara on Tuesday.

Burhan arrived in Turkey earlier in the day, though official state media had not previously announced his departure from Sudan.

The Sovereign Council’s media office issued a brief statement confirming that Burhan met with the Turkish President within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

According to the statement, the high-level meeting reviewed existing areas of joint cooperation and explored mechanisms for further development to serve the mutual interests of the Sudanese and Turkish peoples. The two leaders also deliberated on a number of regional and international issues of common concern.

Both sides reaffirmed the vital importance of reinforcing bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across various sectors, emphasizing that such efforts are crucial for fostering regional stability, promoting sustainable development, and advancing shared strategic interests.
