Sudanese army advances in Khartoum North, RSF retreats
January 18, 2025 (KHARTOUM BAHRI) – Sudanese army forces in Khartoum North have made new advances, reaching the “Al-Shukri intersection” in Shambat, a military source told Sudan Tribune. Meanwhile, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have withdrawn one kilometre south to the Hassan Ibrahim Malik University City.
Controlling the Al-Shukri intersection would enable the army to expand eastward into the industrial zone, westward into Shambat neighborhood blocks, and southward towards the Signal Corps base, which is separated from Al-Shukri by three main points, according to a field source who spoke to Sudan Tribune.
The source added that the army’s advance today was supported by drones, artillery, and snipers, with little resistance from the RSF.
A local Facebook page dedicated to Shambat reported that the army has penetrated blocks 3, 15, and 18 and that battles are taking place in the eastern and northern areas of Shambat.
The army launched a ground operation last September to break the siege on the army command in central Khartoum, which borders Khartoum North. In Khartoum North, forces seek to link the army in Halfaya and Al-Samrab, north of the city, with the Signal Corps base in the far south of the city.
