Sudanese army gains more ground in Khartoum, seizing key sites

February 17, 2025 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army made significant advances on Monday, seizing control of large areas in the south and north of the capital, Khartoum.

The military’s media office in the Al-Shajara area reported that armoured forces and supporting units advanced into Al-Hurriya Street and managed to take control of the Ministry of Animal Resources, the Tax Tower, the Malaysian Tower, and the Medical Supply Department headquarters, which are areas close to the centre of the capital.

The Sudanese army accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of destroying the Medical Supply Department headquarters by setting it on fire.

Platforms affiliated with the army broadcast scenes showing soldiers deploying in the Al-Sajjana and Abu Hamama areas and their presence near the Al-Hurriya Bridge.

The Al-Hurriya Bridge is a major thoroughfare linking southern Khartoum with the centre of the capital. The RSF has controlled it since the first days of the conflict.

With the army’s arrival at these locations, its control over three main roads leading to the centre of Khartoum from the southern sides is complete: “Al-Ghaba Street, Al-Hurriya Street, and Al-Mak Nimir Street.” Meanwhile, the RSF retains Al-Qasr Street, which it uses to move and deliver supplies by passing through the neighbourhoods of Khartoum 2, Khartoum 3, and Al-Dium Al-Sharqiya.

In Khartoum Bahri, the army’s Signal Corps advanced eastward, where it was able to take control of the police towers in the Kober area, which are a series of high-rise buildings that the RSF used in operations to tighten the noose on the Signal Corps by deploying large numbers of snipers.

The army also took control of the “Universal” hospital headquarters in the Kober suburb, where videos circulated showed the extensive sabotage that affected the medical facility.
