RSF drone strike kills five civilians south of Omdurman

May 2, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – At least five people were killed on Saturday when a drone operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck a civilian vehicle south of Omdurman, a Sudanese rights group said.

The attack marks a resurgence in RSF drone activity over the capital region after a months-long hiatus. Over the last three days, drones have also targeted several sites in Jebel Aulia, south of Khartoum.

The Sudanese government has maintained its silence regarding the renewed aerial attacks in Khartoum state, including the strikes in Jebel Aulia and Omdurman. Authorities have not issued a formal statement on the civilian casualties or outlined defensive measures against the incursions.

The Emergency Lawyers group said the drone targeted a vehicle on the Al-Jamu’iya road in Omdurman’s southern countryside as it travelled from White Nile State. All five passengers were killed.

“The attack reflects a persistent pattern of targeting civilians on public roads and in populated areas,” the group said in a statement, adding that such actions violate international humanitarian law.

The renewed violence threatens government plans to stabilize the capital and rebuild infrastructure following two years of conflict that has displaced millions.

The war in Sudan, which broke out in April 2023, has led to a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Rights groups have frequently accused both the RSF and the Sudanese army of indiscriminate shelling and strikes in residential areas.
