South Sudan speaker urges Diaspora to be SPLM disciples

July 17, 2007 (JUBA) — The Speaker of Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, James Wani Igga has urged all SPLM chapters in Diaspora to become the real disciples of SPLM within their respective countries of asylum.

James_Wani_.jpgSpeaking at the closing ceremony of the six days conference on behalf of President Salva Kiir Marydit, Speaker Igga described the conference as being of a Marathon nature but ended successfully in organization and stargazing for SPLM as a national political party of Sudan. “This is a political battle that we the SPLM must win and we will win the coming election comes 2008”, he declared.

He explained that SPLM organization starts from village to Boma to County to regional sector and to National Convention, and the party is now the most popular in the whole Sudan. Nevertheless, Speaker Igga cautions participants by saying that, “When you are laying a trap, never do it while the bird is watching.”

He officially declared the conference closed at 9.46 pm.

SPLM HEADQUARTERS

Earlier the participants were driven to SPLM headquarters in fourteen vehicles including two bushes and were received by Secretary General Pagan Amum who said the office is a private house of a citizen SPLM is renting since 2005.

Despite its being too small, all the production unit such as Bilpam Agricultural Enterprises, an SPLM economic development wing headed by a Director General, Mr.Shaderk Nathaniel Machut, to ensuring sufficient food security and transfer of modern technology including agricultural tools for the people of southern Sudan,

Pagan Amum says SPLM economic wing is also to setup a factory that will produce agricultural tools such as high bride ox plough for farmers in southern Sudan who in turn get the tools through credit and loan for increasing their food production rate by 30 times.

He expressed sadness on horticulture product where 80 per cent of tomatoes supply in Juba today comes from the neighboring countries while the Nile rives is flowing through Juba city.

Despite infrastructure difficulties, SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum said SPLM headquarters has youth and women league desks, culture and information including administration and finance department among others are operational.

He further disclosed that southern sector has so far registered 2,666,902 members as of July 14th 2007 and the registration is progressively going well in the ten states of southern sector as electronic data are kept on every member.

Adding that department of Culture and Information of SPLM has succeeded in establishing an electronic system that connects the entire southern sector with the headquarters, northern sector and states of southern Sudan by installing 14 VSAT communication network. Adding that the department is in process of developing publication campaign “SPLM shall win the up coming election 2008”.
SPLM is constructing a freedom plaza, five stories building with basement for conference room of 360 seats and it will be ready by December this year.

JUBA UNIVERSITY

Meanwhile at Juba University, the first southern Sudan University, Diaspora delegates were received and addressed by Vice Chancellor Sibrino Farajalla who called upon southern Sudanese professional in exile to come home and participate in academic development of the three universities of southern Sudan.

He further urges Diaspora to assist the three Vice Chancellors of southern Sudan Universities by advocating on their behalf to both the government and private foundations in their countries of residence for financial and specialized areas of academicians staffing.

GARANG’s GRAVE SITE

At the grave site of Late Dr. John Garang de Mabior, the delegates were addressed by Gen. Joseph Lagu, former Vice President of the Republic of Sudan and leader of the first Anyanya movement that brought regional self rule for southern Sudan that lasted for only eleven years, recalled that late Garang was the only University graduate who join Anyanya movement in October 1968 and was from day one advocating for liberation of the whole Sudan consequently he Lagu became Garang’s convert in demanding for liberation of the whole Sudan. Gen Lagu urges Sudanese to join hands in achieving the vision of John Garang, creating a new democratic Sudan for which Garang has scarified his life in order to liberate the marginalized people of Sudan.
