Malaysian Healthcare company to set up hospitals in Sudan

DUBAI, Feb 26, 2004 (Bernama) — KPJ Healthcare Bhd, a member of the Johor Corporation (JCorp) group of companies, has been invited for discussions by the government and the private sectors on the possibility of setting up hospitals in Sudan, Bangladesh and Myanmar as part of its expansion plan to provide management and consultation services in healthcare services outside Malaysia.

KPJ Healthcare chief operating officer Yahaya Hassan said the company has received invitations from several countries to set up operations.

“If all goes well, KPJ would set up hospitals or medical centres in Khartoum, Dhaka and Yangoon,” he told Bernama here, Thursday.

However, Yahaya who is here on a trade and investment mission to West Asia led by International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz, said the matter was still at the initial stage and nothing had been finalised yet.

“We will look at all avenues before the management makes a final decision,” he said.

It was reported recently that KPJ Healthcare announced an overseas expansion plan and the countries outlined were Bangladesh, China, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.

Rafidah in her keynote address at the “Malaysia-United Arab Emirates (UAE) Business Opportunities!” seminar here, Tuesday said that Malaysia was gaining recognition for its healthcare service sector which was able to provide service with high levels of efficiency, quality and skill at competitive price.

She said the Malaysian healthcare sector offers wide range of specialist services and are equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and equipments.

KPJ Healthcare manages and operates 12 hospitals throughout Malaysia and two hospitals in Indonesia.

The hospitals under KPJ Healthcare are Johor Specialist Centre, Puteri Specialist Hospital and Penawar Hospital in Johor, Tawakal Hospital, Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, Damansara Specialist Hospital in Klang Valley, Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Kuantan Specialist Hospital, Kedah Medical Centre, Bukit Mertajam Specialist Hospital, Perdana Specialist Hospital in Kota Baharu and Kuching Specialist Hospital.

In Indonesia, KPJ Healthcare manages Rumah Sakit Selasih in Padang, Sumatra and Rumah Sakit Permata Hijau in Jakarta.
