Sudan sells September Dar Blend at lower discount

August 6, 2009 (SINGAPORE) – Sudan’s state oil company (Sudapet) sold via tender 1.6 million barrels of heavy sweet Dar Blend crude for September loading at a lower discount than last month, a trade source said told Reuters.

Sudapet sold the crude to a Chinese and European firm, in two cargoes, at discounts of $7.15 a barrel to dated Brent, stronger than last month’s sale at discounts of $7.40/7.80.

However, Petronas’ sold September-loading cargo of Dar Blend at a $7.00-7.15 discount earlier this week.

Dar Blend crude is heavily discounted because of its highly acidic content, while US sanctions against the purchase of Sudanese goods also keeps many companies away.

But the heavy sweet, acidic Dar Blend crude can be used for fuel oil blending.
