N. Bahr el Ghazal parliament approves new cabinet
October 21, 2014 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state assembly on Tuesday approved cabinet members appointed by the caretaker governor in a decree issued over the weekend.
The minister for parliamentary affairs, Daniel Akol Diing, said the approvals were made after the deputy governor presented the new cabinet for vetting and approval by lawmakers.
“This afternoon the deputy governor Gen. Salva Chol Ayat presented a memo to the state legislative assembly requesting the August House to endorse and approve the appointment of the newly appointed cabinet minister,” said Diing.
According to the minister, Athiang Manok Athing moved the motion for the approval, which was then seconded by Aguer Wol Aguer.
“Thus the motion was passed unanimously,” Diing told Sudan Tribune by phone.
Mareng Chuor Deng, a former state minister for youth and sports, welcomed the new changes, vowing to work with the new officials.
“This is a normal tendency (practice) the world over and I also take this chance to tell the incoming ministers to cooperate with the old colleagues who are now left in the government. This will help you to easily adapt to your new working environment and will enable you to contribute immensely to the development of our glorious state from whence we had left the last brick,” said Deng.
“This is our state and we will always be available to help in any way should one’s contribution is needed,” he added.
The former youth minister also asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have wronged while actively serving the state administration.
